COVID-19 Precautions and Policies
Face Coverings – The face covering policy for ABC Learning Café is outlined below:
Face coverings are required indoors at ABC Learning Café (per Michigan Executive Order 2020-153).
For ABC Learning Café, we are not offering a medical exemption to this policy. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, you can still access the Internet in our parking lot.
Ongoing Sanitizing Precautions – In addition to our normal cleaning procedures, we will be wiping down common touch areas each day. To help reduce the spread of germs (and reduce the work of our volunteers), we would ask families to wipe down their space after they’re done. We will make cleaning supplies available.
We will have hand-sanitizing stations available for use throughout the Café areas.
If you are experiencing symptoms – According to the CDC, people with COVID-19 have a wide range of symptoms that may appear 2-14 days after exposure. These include: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or small, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.
According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, kids should be watched for the following symptoms related to multi-system inflammatory syndrome (which appears to be related to COVID-19): persistent fever (greater than 100.4), irritability or sluggishness/fatigue, poor appetite or difficulty eating or drinking, abdominal pain or discomfort (most common complaint), nausea (with or without vomiting or diarrhea), rash, anywhere on the body – skin can be pale, patchy, blotchy, or even seem bluish, bloodshot eyes, red, swollen, or sore throat, enlarged lymph nodes on the neck – some children experience this as “neck pain”, red and/or cracked lips, red (strawberry) tongue, swollen or red hands and feet.
If you have experienced ANY of these symptoms during the past 14 days, please DO NOT ENTER the ABC Learning Café. (You may still have access to the Internet in our parking lot.)
We’re offering a free, safe, learning environment for you and your kids to help you access the Internet and offer a safe space for your kids to do schoolwork.
What ABC Learning Café IS:
- A 2-hour window for your kids to study and have free access to the Internet.
- Sessions are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11am and 5-7pm.
- Limited in space and will function on a first come first serve basis. (Reservations are recommended.)
- A sanitized environment at tables with social distancing and mask policies enforced to help ensure your safety.
- Free for anyone in the community with school-aged kids.
What ABC Learning Café is NOT:
- It is not instruction. It’s simply a “space” for parents or guardians to supervise their own kids. We will have a host on hand to help you find your space.
- It is not a drop-off experience. Parents or guardians MUST accompany and supervise their children.
- ABC reserves the right to deny access due to disruptive or inappropriate behavior at our host’s discretion.
- It is not a laptop or tablet resource. We offer free high-speed Internet, but you will have to bring your own device to connect.
- It is not a resource for educational supplies. You will have to bring your own face coverings, pens, paper, crayons, or other school supplies.
- It is not a place for adults or children to just hang out. We would ask that you respect the time of others who are here and focus on schoolwork during your scheduled time.
